HIGH-ALTITUDE HIKES
About Going Out
Guided high-altitude hikes are the best way to go further than the Tatra trails typically allow, in a safe and stress-free manner. Tatra Mountain guides—who are often also TOPR rescuers—will show you how to navigate high-altitude terrain that requires ropes and belaying, help you reach your dream peak or ridge, and introduce you to the world of mountaineering. This is an excellent opportunity for active people who hike in the mountains but aren’t climbers to test their limits and acquire new skills.

Suggested Trips
From Tatra classics such as the ascent of Mnich, through the peaks of the Great Crown of the Tatras and Gerlach—the highest peak in the entire Carpathians—to easier routes for beginners and long, challenging climbs. Both trekking and climbing routes for beginner climbers and those who have completed a mountaineering course—here are a few recommended options:
- Monk (2068) – regular offering, sign up via the website,
- Kościelców Ridge – regular offering, sign up via the website,
- Gerlach (2654) – regular program, sign up via the website,
- Cubryna (2376) — one of the highest peaks in the Morskie Oko area, offers many different routes for ascending and descending, even in winter,
- Niżnie Rysy (2,430) — the third-highest peak in Poland, located on a side ridge branching off from Rysy; an easy but beautiful hike, popular in winter,
- Mięguszowiecki Szczyt Wielki (2,434) — the second-highest peak in Poland and one of the most difficult to reach; a long, challenging hike that requires good physical conditioning, yet offers a stunning and classic Tatra experience,
- Wołowy Grzbiet— a section of the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains, full of small peaks and gullies,
- Fajek Ridge —a short but very exposed, scenic, and narrow ridge towering over Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy,
- Żabia Lalka (2095) — a tall, distinctive rock formation belonging to Żabi Mnich, a difficult and demanding climbing route with significant exposure,
- Żabi Koń (2291) — a tall peak on the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains, very exposed; a long hike for experienced hikers in good physical condition, with numerous rappels,
- Rysy, Świnica, Orla Perć —the most challenging marked peaks and trails in Poland, accessible both in summer and winter,
- The peaks of the Great Crown of the Tatra Mountains —that is, the 14 highest peaks in the Tatras—are a challenge for seasoned hikers; there are no hiking trails leading to most of these peaks.
